Since c. 100 years in Southern Germany family-owned. J.M. Koneberg was the last prince-abbot court painter in Kempten, appointed in 1765, and as such executed numerous ceiling paintings and altarpieces. His main work is considered to be the fresco cycle with 20 scenes from the Life of the Virgin, which he executed in 1776 for the parish church of Langenegg in Vorarlberg (Austria). Koneberg was also curator of the princely picture gallery and compiled a catalogue of the collection. There he also mentions 15 copies painted by him (among others after van Dyck, Tintoretto, Correggio, Raphael and Batoni) as well as 11 original paintings by his hand. His activity in Kempten seems to have come to an end with the secularization of the monastery.
